SCM Performance – Our Drift Project
We fell in love with drifting back in 2015 at Pembrey — and started our own project with a BMW 330i Clubsport. It’s still evolving, and it’s powered by passion (and a fair bit of fuel).

At SCM Remaps, we’re here to help you understand everything you need to know about remapping your vehicle — from warranties to fuel economy, and everything in between.

Will Remapping Invalidate My Warranty?

Technically, any modification to a car can affect parts of your manufacturer or approved used warranty.
Our remaps are typically installed via the OBD port, meaning no physical changes are made to your ECU.
However, if your car is still under warranty and serviced at a main dealer, a software update may overwrite your remap.

Can the Remap Be Removed?

Yes. If you’re selling your vehicle or wish to return it to standard, we can completely reverse the remap for a small service fee.
If your remap is lost due to a dealer software update, we can reinstall it for you.

Do I Need to Inform My Insurance Company?

Yes — it’s a legal requirement to notify your insurer of any modifications.
Some providers will not increase your premium for a remap, but you must declare it.

Will Remapping Increase Fuel Consumption?

In most cases, no. Many of our customers see improved fuel economy, often gaining 3–8 mpg when driving sensibly.

Chipping vs. Remapping – What’s the Difference?

• Remapping: Uploading modified software to your ECU, usually via the OBD port. Some ECUs require direct access to the board for the file to be read and written.
• Chipping: Common before the year 2000, this involved physically removing and reprogramming an EPROM chip from the ECU.

Tuning Box vs. Remap

• Tuning Box: Ideal for leased or warranty-protected vehicles. Fits in minutes, leaves no trace, and modifies sensor signals to adjust fueling and boost pressure.
• Remap: Alters multiple ECU parameters — part-throttle fueling, acceleration fueling, rail pressure, turbo boost, torque limits, and more — for greater performance and flexibility.
